What Problems Do Raccoons Cause?

Raccoon Trapping in San AntonioYou've likely heard about or experienced raccoons in yards, but these medium-sized mammals are also frequent visitors of the inside of your home, as well. A major area of your San Antonio home that you may run into raccoon problems in is your attic. As you might guess, raccoons enjoy attics because they are hidden away from humans and offer a great area for living and nesting (unfortunately, this is usually at the expense of your insulation and ventilation, as seen in the photo). Some of the most common problems associated with raccoons include:

  • Smashing down insulation as they walk and ripping insulation during nesting
  • Physical damage to floors and walls due to feces and urine accumulation
  • Indirect or direct contact with raccoons can transmit diseases and parasites like raccoon roundworm

Baby Raccoons

The raccoon mating and gestation period is in late winter/early spring (typically January–February, with a birth period of between March–April and sometimes even as late as June.)

The quantity of baby raccoon kits can vary but is usually somewhere around five (as seen below). Raccoons are one of the wildlife critters whose babies sometimes aren't carefully considered by many wildlife removal company during removal, so we're very careful to make sure the creatures have been fully removed so none die in the process.
